Creating abstract art can be very fun and rewarding but it can also be incredibly challenging..

Does it sound like you..?

Does it sound like you..?

  • You like painting but you're getting frustrated because you don't have a clear "style" and voice
  • Your art often ends up looking like someone else's rather than your own creation
  • You don't feel emotionally connected to your art. It doesn't stir up much emotions in you, it feels empty
  • Oftentimes you get in front of the canvas and you feel stuck, not knowing what to paint and what to express
  • You don't know what's the story of your creation and therefore have issues when writing about it or naming it
  • You've tried many different things and styles and you like them, but nothing really sticks
  • You're ready to create something deep and meaningful, not just combine pretty colors on a canvas
We're here to demystify the process of "getting inspired" and show you step by step how to grasp the essence of what's inside you and inject that into your art.

Abstract painting is intuitive and expressive but it doesn't mean that there's no preparation involved..

Artists and teachers usually teach you about colors, composition, mark making - which is all amazing and helpful.. BUT!

Something is missing.

And that something comes to play even before you start painting. Because everyone knows the feeling of getting in front of a canvas and just feeling.. stuck.

The usual advice for starting to paint is to just express yourself, to let loose. But if you ever tried to paint, you know that it's really not that easy as it sounds.

The thing nobody seems to talk about is knowing WHAT to paint. Aka what happens BEFORE you even get to the canvas.

And we're not really surprised it's not talked about. It is a very subjective process after all.

But we strongly believe that even this process can be broken up into small tangible steps. Actually - we know it can - since we created a course exactly like that.

Here at This is Artify we believe that there's a roadmap to almost everything. A roadmap that can help you when you feel stuck and not sure where to go.

Christine spent years developing her own practice and she's so excited to share with you her step-by-step process of how to get to the bottom of what's your painting voice and style.

About the artist (and your teacher)..
CHRISTINE OLMSTEAD
My name is Christine and I'm a professional abstract artist. I have been painting and drawing several days a week since I was 18 months old. My practice has taken me from impressionism in childhood, to realism in middle school through college, to finally abstraction in my adult life.

My paintings are conceptual in nature focusing on healing, seeking peace and restoring painful memories. Through my pieces I like to remind viewers to breathe, slow down, seek light, create beauty, and practice peacefulness.

Painting for me is a deeply meditative practice that I usually combine with listening to music.

In this course, I want to introduce you to my process of tapping into what means the most to you and how to inject it into your own art. Information in this course is the backbone to what my process is all about and I'm thrilled to introduce you to it.

See you inside the course!

General advice on how to find your art voice:

General advice on how to find your art voice:

  • Copy the artists you like. A bunch of them.
  • Copy the world around you.
  • Practice.
  • Step out of your comfort zone.
  • Just have fun.
This is the kind of advice you find in the articles on the internet about this subject (really - google it). Now there's nothing ultimately "bad" with this list but there's one big red flag - it's incredibly vague

"Practice, step out of your comfort zone, just have fun." - we don't think that will cut it when you feel frustrated with your art.

Not to mention copying other artists probably won't result in creating things that have deeper meaning specifically to you.

On the other side, this is the method Christine teaches in this 10-day course:

This is the method Christine teaches in this 10-day course:

  • In the first few days, we're gonna do some soul searching and dive into our memories to try to remember sensory experiences that have influenced our life.
  • We're gonna pull color palettes together from stories that are meaningful to us in order to create deep meaningful works.
  • Throughout the process, we'll learn how to choose the elements of our art critically (not just ad hoc) and with purpose
  • We will go through targeted exercises that will help us figure out what's most important to us and how to inject it into our own art.
  • We'll do lots of studies (we're gonna create over 30 studies in this course) that tell our story so we have the tools to easily translate this into a full blown collection.
  • Result: Full body of work that speaks truth about who we are.
The approach in this course is methodical and to the point. No guesswork, no fluff.

"In this course, I wanna help you deepen your abstract work so that it can tell the stories, concepts, ideas and values that mean the most to you. I want your work to speak a truth that is deeper than anything else you could get from another artist or just simply copy.

I want you to tell a message that is true and authentic to you and that is coming from a place of critical conceptualism where you've chosen your elements carefully to best tell your story in a unique beautiful way." - Christine

What's inside the course:

What's inside the course:

The first few days are all about soul searching! You're gonna be introduced to conceptualism and to exercises that will help you narrow down your values and concepts that are meaningful to you.
During day 3 and 4, you're gonna start giving a body (transforming it to an art work) to the concept that speaks to you the most. Christine will lead you through this process step by step and give you questions to ask yourself that will help you with this part.
Day 5 is all about introducing mixed media into your process. We're gonna go outside the box working with both traditional and non traditional materials, depending on what resonates the most with you.
During these days we are gonna create over 30 studies that best convey the concepts that mean the most to you. Christine will work alongside you and walk you through the thought process that helps her create her own works of art.
Theme of day 9 is self editing. The process of self editing is crucial for any artist. Sometimes it's not about what you paint on the canvas as much as it is about what you do not paint. Christine will explain step by step how she edits herself and give you the tools to do the same.
In the last day, we're going to start thinking about how to take what we created and take it further - translate it to our own (maybe first ever!) collection. This last step won't take a day, it will be a process of probably several weeks but at the end of that you will have an entire collection of art that is intentional and reflects your most important values.
